No Body is Perfect!
July marks eating disorder awareness month. It is important to understand that it is your body and you make the rules. Do not let the pressure of society over-rule something that is a necessity for your health. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of all mental illnesses. 24 million Americans suffer from eating disorders. 20% of those will die due to health complications or suicide.
Eating disorders are complex and well-known medical illnesses that can ultimately alter your emotional and physical health. Aside from affecting your body, eating disorders cause depression and anxiety. Not giving your body the necessary food intake can cause high/low blood pressure, kidney damage, failed organs, and heart problems.
GenPsych, PC, provider of top quality outpatient psychiatric and substance abuse services, stresses the importance of eating healthy. GenPsych offers a Healthy Eating and Living [HEAL] Program where certified counselors and doctors work closely with patients to develop a more sacred relationship with food and your body.
GenPsych has a Partial Care Program which is a full day, detailed program that meets for 6 1/2 hours, 5 days a week. This program includes two daily monitored meals plus a variety of specialized groups. Next, the Intensive Outpatient Program is a 3 1/2 hour, 3 days a week treatment that includes one daily monitored meal and group meetings that focus on special areas of recovery.
